We began rescuing animals in our suburban backyard many years ago. As that evolved, we recognized the need for a farm animal sanctuary on the Central Coast. "There were so many animals in need and very few, if any, places for them to go. We needed to step up on behalf of these animals." Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary became an official nonprofit organization in 2016.
"People seem to have empathy for companion animals, but disregard farm animals. Typically farm animals are ignored and left to suffer, or they're slaughtered. We're here to show that there's a kinder way."
We have learned through experience that all animals are sensitive, they love their families and are very protective. They want to live and raise their young as much as humans do. Animals cry out when their friends or family members are missing or out of view."It's very special to gain an animals trust after humans have hurt and betrayed them. To witness them heal at Greener Pastures and watch their unique personalities blossom is a huge reward."
When children visit Greener Pastures Farm Sanctuary, they get to learn about the animals in an age appropriate fashion and hear their stories of courage, triumph, and forgiveness. They learn that even though we all look different on the outside, on the inside we are all the same. This gives them the opportunity to expand their empathy for all living things. Kids take these lessons and experiences home to their families and classmates and help create a kinder community.
